A mother confides after losing 2 sons in a fire in a Christmas house: “I am suffering, but I must be strong for them”

Today, Demika Pinson relives a nightmare.

“All I was thinking about was Mika, your kids. If we don’t jump out that window and get out of here in the best possible way, we’re going to die,” she said.

It was Christmas morning and Demika felt some trouble when she woke up to go to the bathroom.

“I was like, Darius – I don’t know what’s going on, but I think this house is about to explode,” Demika said.

Darius, 10, was near his mother. As Demika searched for her other children, Dyorr, 2, and Deliah, 8, as well as DeLon, 7, and DeMarion, 6, both of whom fell asleep downstairs near the Christmas presents.

“I had my 2 year old daughter and I grabbed her by the window,” Demika said.

Demika then tried to get Deliah and Darius to follow her.

“Then I look for them, but all I see is a black curtain and they are gone,” she said. “I scream their names and slip into the process. So, I jumped with my daughter in my arms.”

Demika is now outside with her 2 year old child.

“I’m starting to go crazy like oh my god I have to get in and start kicking the door but I had no shoes on.”

Then Demika saw something that gave her hope.

“I see Darius and Deliah come out holding hands,” she said. “As soon as they ran out, I saw a trail of fire behind them.”

But DeLon and DeMarion were nowhere to be found.

“I’m trying to wake them up,” Demika said. “I scream their names and everything.”

The neighbors ran outside because of the screams and called 911. Unfortunately, DeLon and DeMarion did not make it on their own.

“I can’t question God,” Demika said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but there was no smoke detector inside the house.

“You must have smoke detectors,” Demika said,

Demika calls her son Darius a hero for leading her sister, Deliah, through the flames.

“My son, Darius, had to do things that I couldn’t do,” she said. “I’m so proud of him.”

As the mother works to pick up the pieces and rebuild after losing two children, she now knows the road will be tough.

“It hurts,” she said. “My children are fighting, but I have to be strong for them.”

To complicate matters even further, Demika cannot be with Deliah and Darius, who are in the hospital recovering from third-degree burns, as she has COVID 19. She also hasn’t told them that. their brothers were in heaven.

“I need them to heal and I need them to do their best while they fight,” she said.
