THIRTEEN people were shot dead at a house party in Chicago today, and four others were seriously injured.
Shots were fired just after 12:30 a.m. at a house on the South Side in the United States.
Those injured in the attack are between 16 and 48 years old, local police told Kiro 7 newspaper.
Two people were arrested in connection with the attack and a gun was recovered.
It is understood that the horror took place at a memorial party for a 22-year-old who was shot dead during an attempted car theft, reports the Chicago Tribune.
A neighbor told local news: “I was woken up by the sound of, seemed to be four, five or six shots and it sounded pretty loud, so it seemed a bit close.
“I didn’t see any commotion when I looked out the window, but soon after I heard the noises of people screaming and running away from a party on the street.”
The victims were all taken to hospital, four of them in critical condition.
Patrol leader Fred Waller told WSBT the victims all suffered “different and diverse gunshot wounds to the body.”
He added: “It looked like they were randomly shooting people leaving the party.”
