The annual home and business decorating competition is in its 26th year with continued sponsorship since its inception by Lee County Electric Cooperative. (LCEC). This year, the preliminary judgment took place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, December 9, 10 and 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. each evening. The Final judgment is scheduled for Friday, December 13 from 6.30 p.m. to 10 a.m. The Judges Bus leaves the Iberia Bank parking lot at 6:15 p.m. after the committee launch party which sets in motion a high energy of Christmas spirit for the entire community. Traditionally, a caravan of cars follows the bus to get a direct view of the Top 10 homes.

All owners of the top 10 homes receive a plaque and the top winner receives the coveted “backyard sign” and a special winner’s plaque. The winners of the Home and Business contests also each receive a NEW “Travel Trophy” which will be passed to the next winner each year. The interior design winner will also receive the Iberia Bank Christmas Spirit Award, a $ 100 Lowe’s gift card. The winner of the corporate decoration will also receive the Naples Botanical Garden Award, an outdoor lighting package.

The Dave Rice committee said “over 1,700 homes and 100 businesses have been decorated.” The businesses were judged on their exterior decorations and the winner receives a plaque and garden sign on December 14. Many previous winners flaunt their garden signs each year and continue to decorate in the spirit of the season.
