A CHRISTMAS-crazed grandma, who has vowed to give up her £30,000 collection of decorations, has defied her Scrooge-looking husband and decorated his house once again after spending an extra £5,000.

Betty Ann Jones, 79, from Wales, has decorated every room in her home this festive season, even after previously deciding she was going to ditch her extravagant Christmas decorations.

After buying six more Christmas trees in the last year alone, Betty Ann says she’s running out of space for her thousands of decorations.

Her husband, Keith, also 79, hates Christmas, but that doesn’t stop Betty Ann from going all out for the decorations as she even created Santa’s grotto in her backyard with a 7ft sleigh .

She said: “I don’t know how Keith can hate Christmas while living with me. He thinks I’m crazy.

“But even though he doesn’t like it, he helps me decorate the outside of the house.

“As I climbed up and down the ladders indoors, decorating every room in our home – even though I’ll be 80 on my next birthday!

“I already said I was going to give up decorating the house and I didn’t last year because of covid.

“But I couldn’t resist turning the house into a Christmas grotto again. I love the smile on people’s faces when they see the house.

“I brought six extra Christmas trees this year in preparation. I even brought a Florida Christmas tree with me when I visited a few years ago.

“It’s a snowman Christmas tree. It’s so unique that I had to buy it.”

Betty Ann has over 20 Christmas trees in her house this year, as well as Santa’s grotto and a 7ft sleigh in the garden where she will have children to meet Santa, to raise money for charity charity.

She says the kids think her house is magical and she’s friends with Santa Claus.

Betty Ann added: “My love for Christmas was born because I spent 20 years running a retirement home.

“The residents loved Christmas, so I wanted it to be as special as possible for them.

“And then I started taking trips to Christmas markets in Germany where I picked up all my decorations.

“Over the past 30 years I have collected decorations and spent around £35,000 on them all.

“One of my favorite decorations is a nativity scene that I bought in Germany because that’s the true meaning of Christmas.

“I love it.

“It takes a while to get all the decorations up, especially now that I’m getting older. So this year I started in early November to make sure they were done on time.

“I think doing this at home for Christmas is really special and unique, especially because we’re raising money for charity.

“It brings a lot of joy to so many people, even though Keith isn’t that enthusiastic.”

Betty Ann says she doesn’t think she can buy decorations anymore because she has nowhere to store them or even places to display them.

The house is full of Santa Claus figures, nativity scenes, Christmas trees, snowmen and even 12 reindeer on a windowsill.

Betty Ann said: “When people see the house they think it’s fantastic. They can’t believe I do everything myself and they’re shocked at how many decorations I’ve managed to put up there. inside the house.

“Although I said I was going to give up decorating, after the year everyone has had, I wanted to bring something joyful and positive to make us smile.

“I can’t imagine not living in a Christmas grotto over the festive period, but as I’m approaching 80, I think it might be time to slow down.

“People can’t believe I run up and down the ladder hundreds of times a day to get everything in place.

“I guess I’ll have to wait and see what happens next year.”
