Illinois firefighters spread holiday cheer with Christmas decorations

Life hasn’t been easy for 4-year-old Georgeanna. The child has a rare form of ovarian cancer and has undergone several surgeries.

To make things a little brighter, firefighters came to the rescue.

Nearly 80 firefighters from 15 Illinois departments created winter wonderland Friday at six South Side homes. In every home, families have been touched by cancer.

“We have amazing neighbors and a wonderful community and we’ve been so supported,” said Rahcel Clark.

Everything was the brainchild of the Bracken family. Their daughter and sister, Finley, 2, died of a rare form of nerve cancer last year on 9/11.

“She was hilarious, she made everyone laugh. She had a lasting impression on so many lives,” Finley’s mother said.

Fire crews worked through the night, hanging garlands, twinkling lights and assembling holiday angels. Junior firefighters also participated.

Georgeanna’s big sister said it was a job well done.
