Police officers and other volunteers helped deliver more than 13,000 gifts to children from struggling families in McHenry County on Sunday.

On Sunday morning, members of the McHenry Police Department and family members presented gifts on behalf of the McHenry Area Rotary Club’s Secret Santa program.

“The Secret Santa program helps struggling families by providing Christmas gifts to their children, who otherwise might not have the joy of opening a present on Christmas,” the McHenry Police Department said.

This was the fourth year the McHenry Police Department has assisted the program by delivering gifts, the police department said.

Over 13,000 gifts were delivered to over 2,000 children in the McHenry County area this year.

Last year, more than 1,800 children received gifts.

“Many families in McHenry County are struggling desperately due to unexpected job loss, death of an employee, divorce or abandonment, illness, disability or other crises,” said the McHenry-area Rotary Club.

“Children in these families might not otherwise experience the joy of unwrapping a gift at Christmas,” the organization added.
