Mark Hall died in hospital after two gunmen fired at least seven shots at his mother’s house

The girlfriend of a man who was murdered at his mother’s home over the weekend has told how she was talking to him on the phone at the time he was shot.

Murder victim Mark Hall, 31, died in hospital after two gunmen fired at least seven shots, including some through the living room window of his mother Mary’s Belfast home.

Mr Hall had traveled to Northern Ireland’s capital by train for the day from his home in Co Meath to deliver Christmas presents to his mother and other family members.

He was in the living room when the attack happened, along with a number of other family members, who narrowly avoided being injured.

Her sister Deirdre was returning from a local shop, when she saw the armed men approaching the house in the St James area of the city.

She attempted to intervene before the shots were fired. As the gunmen fled, they fired a shot at her, which “went through her purse”.

Police called the attack, which happened shortly after 4.30pm, “disgusting”.

While detectives said although it is too early to speculate on the motive for the killing, they believe it was a targeted attack.

Hall had links to organized crime and was considered a close friend of father-of-two Warren Crossan, 28, who was shot while visiting his mother in west Belfast in June 2020.

He is survived by his partner Sabrina Wilde, 22, who is expecting the couple’s second child next July, and their young daughter, Freya Joanne, 18 months.

The couple had been together for nearly three years after meeting through friends and living in Navan.

Dublin-born Sabrina told Belfast Live she was on the phone with Mark on Saturday afternoon when he was attacked.

“We had a conversation about him bringing the train back at 6 p.m. that evening and being picked up at Drogheda station,” she recalls.

“I was telling her I was going to get my nails done and my mom was going to pick up Freya.
