Where else can I go to see the Christmas lights in South Carolina?
Every year, millions and millions of Christmas lights go up around the Palmetto State. We’ve rounded up some of the biggest, best, and brightest Christmas lights in South Carolina so you can put them on your to-do list. From drive-in exhibits, to epic holidays, to festivals at some of the state’s biggest attractions, Palmetto State lights up with twinkling, festive lights throughout the holiday season.
What’s the best Christmas event in South Carolina?
Although we all love them, there is something truly magical happening at Brookgreen Gardens in the winter. Each year, South Carolina’s number one outdoor attraction, Brookgreen Gardens, offers the best winter hike in South Carolina and takes place at night under flickering candlelight and twinkling lights. For a handful of magical nights this holiday season, Brookgreen Gardens is open at night for a spectacular light show, which makes it even more special. Wander freely through the many sculpture gardens and admire the lights shining perfectly to illuminate numerous sculptures and fountains. Each afternoon, more than 2,700 candles are lit by hand throughout the garden; some even float in the many reflecting pools. It’s such a magical sight and beautiful setting for the best winter hike in South Carolina!
Are there any unique holiday events in South Carolina?
In addition to the above Christmas light displays in South Carolina, these drive-in displays are quite unique to the Palmetto State. What we love the most is that you don’t even have to get out of your warm and cozy car to enjoy it! Our favorite is James Island County Park, which is the largest in the state and features over two million lights and three miles of exhibits to traverse. Then visitors can park and enter the enchanted light trail for even more Christmas lights, visit Santa, shop for candy and more, roast marshmallows, board the festival train and make a ride on the holiday carousel.
