Thieves steal Christmas gifts from family amid tragic loss

BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) – A Hamilton family is struggling after they say a thief broke into their garage and stole all of their Christmas presents a few days before Christmas Eve.

Ron Waddell still doesn’t know how the thief got through the garage door.

“[It] was 100% locked,” Ron said on Wednesday.

He noticed the alleged theft early Tuesday morning when he saw the door open.

“We had like a gateway of gifts [in the garage,]he explained. “They left a present: my daughter’s dollhouse that we had just assembled.”

And there’s more: a lawnmower, a weeder, saws and drills, all kinds of tools and three toolboxes, all missing, as well as old knives from Ron’s grandfather on his mother’s side .

The theft is all the more difficult to swallow after the death of Ron’s father, whom the family laid to rest on Monday.

“It kind of devastated the family,” he said. “I called my father first.”

At this time, friends and neighbors have mobilized to put new gifts under the tree.

“It’s nice to see family and friends coming together to help us with the few gifts we’ve received so far.”

Hamilton police are investigating. If you have any information, please call the department at 513-868-5811.
